Digital Cameras and Shutter Lag

The shutter lag in digital cameras is the delay between triggering the shutter and the actual photo being recorded. The is a problem with action shots in photography or fast moving objects. This refers to the time the button is pressed to when the photo is taken. When a regular photo is taken you won’t even notice the lag, but when taking an action shot that one second could either make the picture or cause you to miss it.

The delay is from the charging of the CCD which slows its transmission of capture data to circuitry of the camera for storage and processing. How long it takes for the camera to take the actual photo varies from camera to camera, but is usually about one second. It is best to get the time figured on your specific digital camera.

Digital Cameras and Shutter Lag

If you are trying to avoid the shutter lag in your digital camera, try pressing the button down half way before taking a picture, this will cut down some of the time. However, you can’t sit with your finger pressed waiting on that perfect picture.

However, some new cameras come without a shutter delay, therefore taking that picture without any problem. If you are needing to take action pictures the lag will cause you trouble unless you have practiced taking these type photos. Some digital cameras come with a feature that will allow you to take continuous shots during the lag, and the card will record them. In these pictures, the object should be focused, but the background will be blurred out.

Techniques for Taking Pet Photos

Since photographs are becoming a huge industry and an even larger hobby, many people enjoy taking pictures of everyday things. From trees to friends, pictures can convey how our life really is and the special things that are apart of it. Because of this fact, it just makes sense that pet photographs are as popular as ever. Unfortunately, many people may not know how to take a picture of their beloved animals. Animals, unlike humans, do not know they are being photographed and will often move when we don’t want them to. You may come out with blurry and mediocre pet photographs to show to your friends.

One technique to use when taking pet photos is to try and capture your pet’s unique personality. If your cat has a habit of licking the water out of the goldfish bowl, take a photograph of that. If your dog enjoys standing on his hind legs to look out the door, a picture should be taken. Taking a picture that accurately shows something your pet does that is unique to them will allow you to forever cherish their amazing personality. New pet photographers may find that it’s easier to take a picture if their pet is asleep because the animal isn’t moving.

Techniques for Taking Pet Photos

When taking a picture of your pet, get on their level. No one wants to see the top of your dog or cat. Get on your knees or stomach so that you can capture them in all their loveliness. If your cat is sitting on a desk, for instance, sit at the desk and take the picture, as opposed to taking it standing up. You might also want to look into good quality cameras that allow you to take real-time photos. Real-time photos allow you to take a picture that automatically reduces the blur on something that movies. These techniques will enable you to take amazing pet photos.

Get Creative with Digital Photos

Taking pictures is a great hobby that many people enjoy doing. That is when you need to realize about the various digital photo ideas of what all you should take pictures of. Once you know what all you should take pictures of you will be able to see that it is a great way to take pictures and be able to see the results right away.

One idea that you can take a picture of is going to be people. Now when you take a picture of people you may want to make sure that you get permission from them first if they are not family members, but you will see that with the digital pictures you can review them right away.

Digital Photo Ideas

Something else that you will want to take pictures of is landscape. The landscape pictures that you can take are often some of the most beautiful ones that you can find, but if you use a regular camera it could easily become very blurry. That is when you need to realize that you can take the picture right away and review what it looks like. Then you can determine what kind of adjustment you need to make to ensure that you get a great looking picture each and every time.

Being able to take pictures as a hobby is a wonderful thing to do. The problem that you can encounter though is not having any type of digital photo ideas. Once you have those ideas, you will see that taking the pictures and being able to review them right away is a huge blessing that can let you get the perfect picture each and every time.

Tips and Tricks for Novice Digital Camera Users

A digital camera opens up new opportunities for creative expression and capturing memories. For novices, the options may seem overwhelming. Below are some tips and tricks to get the most out of your digital camera.

First, read your manual carefully to better understand the symbols and menus on your digital camera. Get into the practice of keeping your camera in a case and carrying it with you everywhere. Take photos of even those subjects that seem boring. Developing a photographer’s eye and seeing everyday things in a new light is part of the fun. Explore web sites such as Flickr as places to store and share your photos. Read online forums to get ideas from other digital camera users.

With a digital camera, errors cost nothing. Snap away freely, knowing you can delete photos you don’t like.
Experiment with the different settings on your camera. Most digital cameras have an “easy” or “auto” option as well as portrait, landscape and night options, among others. Take photos of the same subject using a variety of settings to get a better understanding of which options are best in different environments and situations.

Digital Cam Tips and Tricks

Avoid blurry photos by slowing down your shutter speed and taking time to focus. Print some of your photos to see how they look in hard copy. Sometimes photos that seem blurry on your screen come out quite well when printed. To avoid shaky snapshots, consider adding an inexpensive tripod to your equipment. Remember that taking action shots with a digital camera is a “practice makes perfect” experience. Be patient when learning to use your continuous shooting options.

Light Exposure in Digital Cameras

Taking photos using a digital camera can be a fun experience that can accurately convey what is important in our lives. Unfortunately, many of us are digital camera novices and we do not know how to take great pictures all the time. Sometimes, our pictures may come out too dark or too bright. We may want to take a photo of a beautiful flower that is brightly lite by the sun, but when we take the picture it looks very washed out because of poor light exposure. Properly adjusting your digital cameras light exposure is essential to taking the perfect shot every time.

Light exposure in digital cameras is based on two things: aperture and shutter speed. Aperture refers to the exact size of the lens that is open during a particular camera shot, which adjusts how much light will be let in. Shutter speed refers to the allotted time that the camera’s sensor is exposed to light. In order to take great pictures, these two components have to be adjusted with each shot. The reason they are not automatically adjusted in your camera is because lighting is different all the time. A different shutter speed and aperture should be used in dark locations as well as a different setting for bright day shots.

Light Exposure in Digital Cameras

Aperture may also be used to focus into one key area on the picture, while blurring out the rest. Many professional photographers know exactly how to set these two components, while the rest of us are left guessing. Unfortunately, the settings are never exact since they are completely unique to your specific digital camera and the time of day you are taking a picture. The best way to learn how to adjust the aperture and shutter speed is to just experiment with it. The more you experiment with these settings, the more familiar you will get with them.

A Common Photography Problem: Out of Focus Digital Photos

Regardless of how sophisticated digital cameras have become, there are still some situations that will require special lenses or special lighting and focusing arrangements. Simple point-and-shoot cameras are quite popular, but if you are serious about getting great quality photos in any situation then there are some things to know. Solely relying on the automatic focusing and lighting features can be a real mistake and can create poor photos.

There are a few things you can do to make every picture perfect. Be aware of the surroundings and scenarios in which you shoot. Manually set the camera functions for the desired effect. Manipulate the physical location or angle of the camera or manipulate the subject or scene itself for optimal lighting and focusing.

A very common problem with a digital camera is a photo that looks blurry or has low contrast; this is known as out of focus. Software cannot correct the problem, so getting it right the first time is imperative. There is nothing better than your own eyes for focusing your camera. Even the most sophisticated digital cameras with auto-focus features can be fooled into choosing the wrong settings.

Out of Focus Digital Photos

Sometimes, the viewfinder on the digital camera is not connected to the lens at all, so you cannot be sure by simply looking through it. Also, the LCD screen could be too small or too low-res to be able to note the slight fuzziness of the overall picture that results. If you have a digital SLR you are in luck because you can peer through the lens via the viewfinder.

Finally, an option to use to get better photos is to simply take more than one. Take several with different settings and even at different angles. Use manual mode for a few and then switch to the automatic settings. Choose a different angle to shoot and try getting closer or farther away from the subject.

Practicing a few good digital landscape photography tips can enhance and expand your digital photography hobby.

Use the RAW file format which saves your data as is and allows you to make adjustments once the photos are on your computer. Shooting RAW gives you more editing control over your photos.

Great photographers know that time of day is important in capturing landscapes. The golden glow of dawn and dusk are known to be the best time periods for capturing an outstanding landscape. Scheduling time to go out in the early morning or in the evening as the sun begins to set can yield awesome results. Angles of light at these times of the day can add texture and dimension to that shot.

Digital Landscape Photography Tips

Plan and spend time looking for different points of view. Try different angles such as shooting from above or getting down closer to the ground. Each situation and photograph is different and experimenting in this way can offer unique and beautiful perspectives to your photos. Try shooting during different weather changes, not only when it’s sunny outside. Dramatic results can happen.

Get in the habit of using a tripod and consider a cable or wireless shutter release. Take time to examine your photo composition.

Get to know your digital camera and what it does. Shoot pictures often and don’t forget to experiment. These are just a few digital landscape photography tips that you can use to enhance your photography experience and help get some of those exceptional shots.

The following Baby Photography Tips are used by the pros, and will help to ensure that each of your infant sessions run smoothly.

Timing is Everything

Work with the parents to determine the baby’s happiest, most active time of day. Planning a session while the baby is normally napping will not result in a baby ready to smile and be playful for the camera. Likewise, a hungry baby is not a happy baby. Impress upon the parents the importance of bringing in a child who is well-rested, and has a full belly.

Have Help

Your job will be made easier if you have a helper to keep the baby entertained with feathers, stuffed animals, rattles, and goofy faces. This will allow you to keep your focus on lighting, framing, backgrounds, and snapping those perfect photos that the parents will go gaga over.

Let it Happen

Don’t get bogged down in creating the perfect pose. Depending upon the age of the baby, it may be hard to get them to comply with the set-up you have in mind, or they may be old enough to understand by have something else in mind. Just keep shooting. Often those candid moments will make for the most charming photos.

Photographing babies can seem like a daunting task, but the millions of cute baby photos that exist are proof that it can be done. By keeping these Baby Photography Tips in mind when you book your next infant session, you will arrive prepared to give the parents exactly what they want: gorgeous and creative prints of their most precious work of art.
